Thank you Ladies. Clow Recognized as CP Biology November Student of the Month (1/26/07) Senior Amy Clow was recognized by Mr. Stevens as one of two CP Biology Students of the Month for November. Our Lady Hawks once again have exemplified what it is to be a student-athlete, combining top notch effort first in the classroom and then out on the soccer field. Congratulations Amy - you deserve the recognition and honor. Four Lady Hawks Qualify for States in DECA (12/11/06) This past weekend Junior midfielder Liz Blascoe, Sophomore defender Lauren Cook, Junior 2005/06 All-Conference defender JoEllen Keyser, and Sophomore midfielder Jaclyn Roth were four of 54 Horizon students to qualify for the state DECA competition in February. Horizon students will represent 31% of all students in this DECA district at the competition, by far the most of any high school in District 12 and Denver Public Schools. Once again, it was an incredibly strong showing for Horizon's DECA program (and the Lady Hawks Soccer Program). Congratulations to Ms. Valentine, Mr. Schrader, and Mr. Samora and all the DECA Chapter members for their hard work and success. See the Links Page on our website or click the following to learn more about: Horizon High School DECA. Callaghan a Boettcher Scholarship Semi-Finalist (11/29/06) Senior defender Kristina Callaghan was one of around 150 Colorado students to make it to the semi-finals of the Boettcher Scholarship Application process. This is quite an accomplishment as she has been chosen from over 2000 applicants, all of which scored at least a 27 on their ACT and were in the top 5% of their class. The Boettcher Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country and each year 35-40 Colorado students are awarded the honor. Each four-year scholarship is composed of full tuition and fees, a living stipend, a book allowance, an international education grant and an enrichment grant to any four-year college in Colorado. We're all wishing Kristina the best of luck as the application process advances - just getting this far is an amazing accomplishment! Ladies Hawks Named Science Students of the Month (11/2/06) The September Science Students of the Month were recently announced and once again the Lady Hawks Soccer Program was well represented. Last year's C-team student-athlete Stephanie Beck (sophomore) and JV student-athletes Erin Maes (sophomore) and Bobbie Harvey (senior) were all named students of the month for their class. Stephanie and Erin were both chosen by their Chemistry teacher Tara Welander and Bobbie was chosen by her Cell Biology/Genetics teacher Melba Woods. Congratulations girls, you should be proud of your accomplishments on and off the field - we certainly are. Two Hawks Soccer Players Part of 1st Place Showing at Broomfield Days Parade (9/18/06) Seniors Bobbi Harvey and Jess Williams were part of Horizon's Marching Band that won first place in the Broomfield Days Parade last week. Harvey is a defender who plays the tenor saxaphone, and Williams is a midfielder who plays the mellophone. Junior defender Chirstina Kissel also plays in the band but was unable to participate in the parade because she was competing in a tournament for Horizon's varsity volleyball team. Congratulations you two and to Mr. Goodmanson and Mr. Wagner - Great job! |
